Akron, Ohio

On Thursday, September 24th, Akron Art Museum celebrated the grand reopening of the historic 1899 Building.

Summit Construction served as CMR for the 21,431 SF renovation that transformed three floors of the building. The first floor upgrades provided expanded storage space and additional administrative areas. The second floor was turned into a creative hub featuring art exhibitions, classrooms, gallery space and the new Idea Machine. The top floor included an all new office space for the museum staff complete with a glass wall conference room and common areas.

The reopening marks an exciting new chapter for the museum, expanding opportunities to engage the community through art, education, and innovation experiences.

"It gives us more space to share art, welcome students, create new experiences and bring people together. As we prepare to enter the Museum's next century, we are honoring an important piece of Akron's history while creating new possibilities for what the Museum can mean to this community for generations to come." - Jon A. Fiume, John S. Knight Direction and CEO of the Akron Art Museum.
