Akron, Ohio
Summit Construction sponsored The University of Akron’s (UA) 5th annual Construction Olympics. In a day full of fun construction-related events, high school and UA students had the chance to experience hands-on challenges to supplement their formal education. The event occurred on September 20th, 2025 held on UA’s campus.
The Construction Olympics is hosted by the College of Civil Engineering, and was founded by Brain Boullu, professor of construction engineering technology. Originally, the event was designed to recruit high school students who are interested in construction and construction engineering and or technologies, but the event progressively changed to having UA students as well.
This year, Summit had the opportunity to host The Steeple Chase, which was located on Coleman Commons. There, the Summit team staged the event to mimic a construction site, complete with caution tape, traffic cones, and even a fence screen. Students were timed as they ran through the mini obstacle course in Summit hard hats and safety vests.
Students who completed the event received prizes which included the Milwaukee toolbox filled with tools they carried during the obstacle course, a Summit Construction water bottle, and for the grand prize winner: a Summit branded JBL Bluetooth speaker.

Sponsoring The Construction Olympics is an invaluable experience for Summit Construction, reminding us that play isn’t just for kids: it fuels creativity, sharpens problem solving, strengthens teamwork, and supports overall well-being.
